PRINCIPAL, UFV India Global Education

The University of the Fraser Valley’s (UFV) academic programming in India is offered through UFV India Global Education (UIGE), a non-profit entity registered in India.

In this dynamic context, an experienced leader is required in the role of Principal for the satellite centre at SD College, Chandigarh. This is a 2 year appointment. The position will commence by September 1, 2019 and will require residency in Chandigarh, UT, India.

The following UFV academic programs are currently offered: Pathways to Canadian Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA); Pathways to Canadian Bachelor of Computer Information Systems (BCIS); Pathways to Canadian Bachelor of Arts (BA); and Canadian Management Post-Baccalaureate Certificate (MPBC).

Primary responsibilities:

The Principal provides academic oversight and leadership, with the following responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership to the faculty and their activities with the responsibility to encourage excellence in teaching, learning, scholarship and service
  • Provides leadership to academic administration staff in Chandigarh
  • Oversees activities related to recruiting, hiring, evaluating, developing and retaining faculty to deliver programming in Chandigarh
  • Liaises with UFV Departments and Schools regarding UFV Canada faculty teaching in Chandigarh, academic programming, and related tasks
  • Advocates for the interests of faculty and students
  • Provides oversight for all aspects of UFV’s academic programming in India, including development, management and review of academic policies and programs
  • Provides academic oversight for admission, registration, timetabling, and enrolment management
  • Provides leadership for the development and maintenance of academic partnerships
  • Participates in the development and implementation of academic components of the UIGE Strategic Plan, 2016-2021
  • Works with the Director of the Chandigarh campus to ensure effective delivery of UFV academic programming in India
  • Represents UFV and engages with external organizations and groups to achieve UFV academic goals in India
  • Works closely with UFV Deans, Directors and Department Heads responsible for UFV academic programing delivered in India
  • Builds and maintains strong working relationships within India and Canada

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Demonstrated leadership and administrative skills and experience in post-secondary education (minimum 5 years)
  • PhD from a recognized institution
  • Record of excellence in teaching, research, scholarship and service
  • Experience in managing organizational change
  • Proven ability of strong leadership skills at post-secondary institutions, including experience in international education
  • Demonstrable advanced competencies in working with ethnically diverse communities and cultures
  • Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Demonstrable advanced experience in evaluating the professional performance of faculty and academic staff
  • Ability to engage external constituencies for the purpose of academic activities
  • Ability to interact with external and internal groups and individuals in a collegial, consultative, fair and transparent manner
  • Professional experience working in North India is an asset
  • Professional experience working in the Canadian post-secondary system
  • Ability to speak Punjabi and/or Hindi is an asset 

Chandigarh, UT, India

Chandigarh is located in the province of Punjab in north India. It is a Union Territory (UT) as well as the state capital of both Punjab and Haryana. A modern planned city under the guidance of M.K. Sharma, Chief Architect of Punjab and Swiss-French architect Le Courboussier, Chandigarh is a metropolitan hub of India’s north. Population: 1,055, 450 (2011 census). Time from Delhi: 4 hours (by car or train); 1 hour (by plane).

Administrative Assistant

Location: Chandigarh, India
Start date: Immediately

Job duties of an Administrative Assistant include, but are not limited to:


  1. Assist in the implementation of human resource strategies and initiatives.
  2. Provide support in the maintenance of overall HR systems, processes and procedures.
  3. Provide support in the review, maintenance & revision of the company’s handbook on policies, terms and conditions of employment.
  4. Provide support to ensure legal & statutory compliances.
  5. Provide support to fulfil the employee recruitment needs of the various departments.
  6. Maintain the historical human resource records through a filing and retrieval system; keeping past and current records.
  7. Assist with the employee on-boarding formalities.
  8. Prepare & distribute employment contract letters, addendums and other official letters.
  9. Look after the employee benefit plans within the organization.
  10. Attendance and leave management.
  11. Assist with the employee exit formalities.
  12. Provide support while conducting performance management systems.
  13. Conduct activities/programs of the human resource department aimed at enhancing employee wellness & motivation, personal and professional development.
  14. Provide assistance to create and revise job descriptions.
  15. Keep the company directory updated at all times.

Corporate Affairs

  1. Provide administrative support to the reporting supervisor as required.
  2. Maintain a follow up system on outstanding matters; bring action items to the reporting supervisor’s attention to ensure timely completion.
  3. Handle and process confidential materials and matters with utmost confidentiality.
  4. Assist with coordinating, scheduling, and organizing various meetings and preparing meeting materials as required.
  5. Provide assistance with respect to the aspects of UFV India events that pertain to the administrative department.
  6. Represents the institute appropriately to outside agencies and officials.
  7. Assist in logistical arrangements for conference/workshops.
  8. Schedule appointments, maintain the event’s calendar, and produce invitations and guest lists for official hospitality functions.
